At Nor-Cal Controls, we pride ourselves on being ready for anything. Usually, that means solving complex SCADA integration challenges or managing open architecture retrofits. But sometimes, the “unexpected” is a little more… mobile.

If you’ve been around for a while, you might remember our legendary duck-wrangling saga. Just when we thought we’d seen it all, our Production Manager stumbled upon the latest addition to the team in the warehouse kitchen: a live crawdad!! While we aren’t exactly sure how a freshwater crustacean navigated his way into a SCADA production facility, we weren’t about to leave a teammate behind. Instead of becoming a warehouse myth, the little guy was officially adopted and named Sebastian.

A Symbol of Transformation

The team feels that finding Sebastian was a particularly good omen because of the timing: he appeared the very same day as the announcement of our acquisition by Mortenson.
In many cultures, the crawdad is a powerful symbol of transformation. Because they must shed their old skeletons in order to grow, they represent the ultimate journey of personal and professional evolution. As we step into this new chapter with Mortenson, Sebastian serves as symbol of growth and we keep a sharp eye on every detail, no matter how small or how many legs it has.

Expect the Unexpected

Whether it’s a SCADA feat running amuck or a surprise warehouse guest, life here is never boring. It’s this same “rescue and resolve” energy that we bring to our projects every day. From protecting local wildlife to protecting your utility-scale assets, we’re always on the lookout.

You truly never know what you might discover when you step into the Nor-Cal headquarters, but you can bet we’ll have a name for it and a plan to help it thrive.

Reach out to discuss your next big rescue—er, project—today.
