At Nor-Cal, we often talk about our core values: Family, Trust, Hard Work, Dependability, and Knowledge. But St. Patrick’s Day gave us a chance to see how those values look in action—specifically through a high-stakes game of “Guess the Leprechaun.”
The mission? Identify our teammates based on a series of increasingly obscure clues. It turns out that when you look past the spreadsheets and SCADA systems, our team is a vibrant mix of former musicians, forklift-certified experts, and at least one person who has never stepped foot inside an Ikea.
The Clues That Kept Us Guessing
Part of the fun of being a “work family” is discovering the unique paths and quirks everyone took to get here. Our team is a vibrant blend of “all-rounders” whose knowledge spans far beyond their job descriptions, including everything from archaeological technicians and personal trainers to former GameStop clerks and musicians. Whether they are “adventurers” who have moved 21 times or trace their roots back to County Tipperary, or “hobbyists” who spend their weekends training in jiu-jitsu, building Legos, or tending to indoor plant forests, there is never a dull moment. We even discovered a dedicated group of animal lovers among us, caring for everything from chinchillas to cats proving that the dependability we show our pets (even the first ones named Marshmallow) clearly carries over to the way we support our customers.
Why We Play
It might seem like just a game, but activities like this reinforce the Trust and Family aspects of our culture. Understanding that a colleague is a winter-loving, Jurassic World fan, or that they have a secret fear of being accused of a crime they didn’t commit, humanizes the “Hard Work” we do every day.
Whether we are working from headquarters or logging in fully remote, these moments of connection remind us that our greatest asset isn’t just our technical expertise; it’s the people who bring their authentic selves to the job.
